Editorial correspondence
This desk keeps an editorial mailbox for one purpose: correcting the record. Correspondence about a misread study, a misattributed finding, a reference that does not support the sentence resting on it, or a claim that has been superseded by newer work is welcome and is read.
The most useful message names the page, quotes the sentence, and identifies the source that contradicts it. Corrections that check out are made, and material changes are reflected in the affected entry rather than logged quietly.
Because every number published here is drawn from a fixed, audited reference list, a challenge to a figure is also a challenge to that list, which makes it worth having. Identifier errors in secondary sources are common for at least one compound in this catalogue, and independent checking is treated as a contribution rather than an inconvenience.
